Every poker player, no matter how good or experienced they are, goes through losing streaks. Some are more pronounced than others, but they all will inevitably happen. No matter how skilled one is at playing poker online, it is to a large degree a game of luck and sometimes the luck will not be on your side.

If you are going through an especially long losing streak, one last weeks or even months where seemingly every card doesn’t go your way and your opponents hit every draw, it can be difficult to remain focused.

This can obviously affect your play and turn small losing streaks into long ones. If you try to play more loosely and make calls you normally wouldn’t in order to turn around your losing streak, then it will end up only making it worse.

It’s very difficult for even the best of poker players to remain focused and on their game during a losing streak. That’s why I recommend that if you cannot do so, to take a short break from the game. Don’t go to a card room, casino, or play any poker room for a week or two. You will come back to the game refreshed and probably with a better mind to play than if you continued to play during the losing streak. Sometimes you just need to take a step back.

Children used to be told that they should never expect good fortune to come to them. They were told that they should cross their fingers and hope, but never expect that lady luck would smile on them. If it so happened that the odds turned in their favor, they should settle for surprised. These children then grew up into an entire generation of poker players that were simply startled out of their wits when they happened to win. These players never, ever assume that they will be on the right side of fortune. What happens when you reverse these well worn childish adages and take success, not as surprise, but as well earned reward? What happens when you expect to win? The simple, and surprising, truth is that players who expect to win are actually far more likely to walk away with the big pots. They know that they have the knowledge and skill to triumph at the poker online table. Despite every attempt to fit, this satisfaction inevitably leaks out as they permeate self confidence. Self confidence has an intimidating effect. It’s a beautiful feedback loop that happens when the poker online players that expect to win actually do so. Why wouldn’t you want to be caught in this beautiful loop?

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the sit-n-go and have realized that since the last time I’ve written on the issue the game has changed quite substantially. Especially in the double or nothing games. Used to, you could just sit and fold in the early rounds, limp with your smaller pocket pairs and hope to set mine someone, make the occasional steal in the mid game, and start pushing at the end game when it the other poker players did all the work for you in busting the bubble and putting you in the money. Well, since the deucescracked.com SnG video has been out, people have learned one very important thing about SnGs. They’ve learned how to be patient.

Now the premise of the above described strategy is still a viable strategy in many of the lesser populated sites where there aren’t constant SnGs going on and you have an edge simply because of experience. But on those site where you have a constant stream of good players playing a lot of online poker SnGs on a regular basis, you have to learn to adapt, as is always the rule for good poker.

So here are some new concepts that should help you stay a bit ahead of the pack in the evolution that is the SnG. Open your positional range. Before the DC video, you could be a very passive early game player and be excessively aggressive in the end game. Time to change that. From my recent games at the 5-10 dollar levels, it seems that a more aggressive approach is much more profitable now. Consider raising more on the button and hijack positions with more marginal hands such as suited Jacks and better. Play your pocket pairs down to 99 and don’t give up on your pocket 9s especially if you get a dry board.

One other thing that’s been incredibly effective is improper betsizing. Since more people are becoming privy to betsizing and what it means, sometimes I’ll grossly overbet my monster pocket pairs, or if I hit the flop hard. This creates some confusion, especially when you’ve been playing a relatively “normal” game throughout the tournament. The other betting technique is the ultimate pot builder in the turbo SnGs. Minbetting is so frustrating to players who pride themselves on proper strategy, sometimes you can induce them into a pot with a worse hand just because they’re frustrated at your “lack of skill.” Good luck and happy hunting.

Stealing pots with bluffs is a great way to survive a dry streak, but make sure that you don’t overdo it. When your online poker opponents pick up on your tendency to bluff, your bluffing effectiveness goes down the drain. After I got my first taste of bluffing success, I couldn’t bluff enough. Every second or third hand that I got I’d just in with a big raise. It didn’t take my poker online opponents very long at all to realize that I was full of crap and start betting over the top, chasing me out of the hand with re-raises and taking a big bite out of my chip stacks. Eventually, I learned that it pays to be picky as to when you decide bluff. To keep your opponents in the dark, you need to establish and maintain a tight image, by spacing your bluff attempts with a lot of folding and honest plays. At most, I buy up a pot once every one or two betting rounds, unless I’m at a particularly susceptible table. Bluffing sparingly and when the time is right will help ensure that your pot steals go your way.

There are two styles of tight play, tight aggressive, and tight passive online poker . Your tight aggressive player will make moves in the right position with less than premium hands and will play his hands that are premium hard and fast under the gun. On the opposite end of the spectrum you have your tight passive players. Players who limp in with good cards but refuse to play them aggressively. They like to limp in with good hands just hoping to catch a piece. The next identifier of a weak tight player is, again, a lack of aggressiveness, in the event they do raise preflop with a hand like big slick or KQ suited, they tend to check it down to the river if they miss the flop. You can take advantage of this by betting them off their missed hands. The third identifier is that weak tight players fold often at aggression. So If you can watch a player long enough to judge them as weak tight or tight passive, you may be able to exploit their playing style by playing back at them with weaker hands or straight out bluffing. But be wary if they do play back at you, you can almost bet they’re holding a monster if not the nuts, and you should proceed with caution from that point.

By creating a noticable table image, you will be better able to dictate the action and manipulate other players into folding or making bad calls. A loose image early in a online poker tournament can help you initially build up your stack. Players often start off tight in an effort to identify other players’ styles. Playing loose early may let you steal a few blinds and win some pots to reinforce your stack as the blinds go up. When choosing to pursue a loose strategy, avoid predictable repetitive betting strategies, like always raising from the button. At some point, a player will come over the top and put your chips at risk. After the first few rounds of blinds, it’s prudent to tighten up. As the online poker tournament progresses, the stakes get higher, and a tight image offers the opportunity to gain fold equity because your opponents’ take notice that you have finally bet into the pot after a long absence from the action. It portrays a big hand impossible to lay down and hard to beat. Tournament poker is where mixing up your style, playing loose at times, then tightening up, will better position you to take charge when you do play a hand.

Almost daily I meet a part-time bowler willing to treat your neighborhood bowling league with new respect. Since this is your situation, this is important beginning in building fundamental skills as a true bowling competitor. Our introduction to the Top 5 Bowling Tips may take your game to new levels. Pros from your city’s bowling pro shop can help their customers to uncover bowling skills. We like to say, the bowling balls do all the work (after you roll them). Just kidding. Fine, bowling is a simple game with not-so simple details. Don’t fret, we can make sure you’re throwing the best way we know how.

No use putting it off, buy your own the specialized at any number of bowling pro shops in your city. You’ll notice a difference with your own stuff. It’s no joke, have your personal ball drilled, and you can make more of your practice time. A carefully fitted bowling ball can make a substantial improvement in your game. The same goes for enjoying quality bowling shoes that don’t stink like desanitizer

After you went ahead and bought the right bowling ball and shoes, listen to the number two bowling tip: taking aim. When you hold the ball, don’t actually aim for your actual target, the pins. Aim for the the markings like a sight on a firearm. What’s the point? It’s less difficult to hit a an aid marker that is closer. For it to work right, include it as part of your routine to line-up at the precise location on the wood on every attempt. Roll from the same place, in the same way and you can fine-tune your accuracy and angle.

As for curves, to achieve specific action on the pins? It is the third-most essential bowler tip. The secret is the ball type. Actually, professional bowlers travel with two or three bowling balls to pull off aggressive hooks, depending on the lane. Just a bit of caution: begginers should keep it simple, and don’t get a ball that is too heavy for you. A lot of semi-pro bowlers invest heavily in bowling balls with synthetic materials. Steer clear of them, because these special-made balls often make even decent pros seem a fool. That’s our first 3 bowling tips. I’ll be back with another 3 soon.

By: Edward Allen

We manage Team “Pindemonium” comprised of morning shift for Bowling Pro Shop just outside Las Vegas. I provide tips to novice bowlers online and at the lanes. Lastly, I must say hi to my bowling buddies at the center. Sorry I can’t be there.

We were “in the money” in terms of points, but only the final 2 tables would get cash prizes. I had been on a bit of a rollercoaster of double ups and losses when I got As Qd in late position.

Blinds are 1000/2000. I have 20,000 chips, which is only 10 big blinds. I’m not folding this hand ever.

2 players limp into the pot. With blinds and antes there is already close to 10,000 chips in the middle at this point. I automatically shove all-in for my 20,000.

The player directly to my left insta-calls my all-in. He has 25,000 chips, so this is a big call for him.

Great, I’ve just shoved into a monster pair and I have no chance in winning now. Super.

But no, I see in the chat box, the online poker player who has called my bet has written out the word “Dammit”. While other players are still folding, I wonder if he is joking or not. Then he writes, “I clicked the wrong button.” Could this be? This could work out amazingly. Everyone else folds and he flips over 9h 10h.

This is good news. He’s got a very tricky hand, but I am the clear favorite. The flop comes: J 7 8 all diamonds

He flops the straight, but I have the diamond redraw. Come on! Any diamond! Blank. Blank. I have learned a new lesson. People can make mistakes and beat me.

One of the most controversial and often most frustrating hands to play in all of Texas Holdem, online or at your local home game, is the small pair. It’s hard to not want to see a flop with most any paired hole cards, in the idea that if you hit your three of a kind you’ll likely win a nice pot. It’s a pretty awful feeling, too, to have to fold those pairs before the flop comes out only to see that third of your set sitting right out on the board, and then a ton of action that you’re missing out on.

Though most of the time, in fact almost a little more than one out of 8 times, those pairs are going to miss and unless you can move your opponent off his hand, you are just tossing away little chunks of money.

So first off, what is a small pair? The definition obviously includes deuces up to sixes, while 7’s up to 10’s are usually considered middle pairs. Though for the sake of argument, these ‘middle pairs’ often tend to end up working in the same way as their smaller brethren, where if you don’t make that set on the flop and there’s any amount of betting, you’re probably going to be gone.

For this reason, it often seems beneficial, particularly in cash game poker, to play pairs all the way up to 10’s, and maybe even Jacks, widely considered the hardest pair to play in all of poker, carefully preflop, trying to invest as little as possible before you commit a lot of money to the pot. This is especially true at tables where the action is really loose and you’ll be forced to dump those pairs a lot of the time when the usual overcards come down, and when you do hit your hand you can go to town and go after all that loose money out there. Meanwhile, like in other kind of monetary venturing, you keep your investment to a minimum before you know where you stand.

The story changes a bit in a tournament situation where blinds and antes are involved, but for the most part this kind of slow pair poker play seems to tend to be the most profitable in the long run.
