Make sure your central heating cover provider is CORGI registered
It’s critically important that the firm providing your central heating breakdown cover uses CORGI registered engineers whenever work is being done on your home heating system. Enquire about this when researching breakdown cover providers, and if anyone so much as hesitates to provide CORGI registration details you should probably discount them from your selection process. The only caveat is that you may occasionally see an apprentice in tow, which is fine, so long as they’re supervised at all times by a CORGI registered plumber.
Chances are you won’t see them more than once a year (when they perform your annual boiler service) anyway, but even if you’ve been assured by your cover firm all engineers are CORGI registered make sure you asl for and check their CORGI card when they show up. And don’t put up with any “the dog ate it” type excuses…any engineer worth his or her salt knows they should carry their CORGI card at all times when working. Sure, maybe Fido did think it was a snack, but if that’s the case it shouldn’t be too hard for the firm to send out another plumber. It’s simply not worth the risk of letting a potentially non-qualifed boiler servicing engineer in to your home.
